14 Sydenham Street, McIntosh Castle
Said to have been the first major project for architect John Power, construction started in 1852 for Donald McIntosh, a ship owner. It was completed by successive owners, and the tower was added after 1878. The building is a Gothic Revival village built on an L-shaped plan with the octagonal tower set in its corner. The structure is a striking contrast to others in the block, but is unique in the Old Sydenham Heritage Conservation District.
