In 1889 Architects Gilen and Gilen, successors to Robert Gage, designed this church with its distinctive round tower for a congregation which had occupied a smaller building at Sydenham and Earl Streets. Chalmers United Church stands on a triangular piece of property at Clergy, Barrie, and Earl Streets. The church is a Romanesque Revival style. One of the most striking features of the church is its stained-glass windows on the north and south facades. Each facade has three large windows. The larger central windows have rose or wheel tracery under the arch, while the flanking ones have a quatrefoil. The wooden frames of six stained-glass windows were repaired and restored in 2024 and for that work the church was awarded by the Frontenac Heritage Foundation. More information is provided in our awards section.
